By the time she has turned sixteen, Heather felt she had been let down by everyone in her life. There are no friends, only an elusive schoolgirl crush who barely knows she exists.
Slowly, as the days drag by, Heather feels she is suffocating in a town she has grown to hate.
Her family has been destroyed by grief and their home sits under a permanent blanket of pain and misery. She has become invisible, collateral damage to a family falling apart before her very eyes. She had internalised her pain for so long she barely remembers who she is.
With her mind in turmoil and unable to see anything worth living for, Heather finds herself standing on the edge of a jetty peering down into the turbulent waters below. As she closes her eyes she slowly loosens her fingers on the railing behind her, the only thing stopping her from falling into the sea.
