At nineteen years old, Stanton knows that his story has already been written. With no money or education and a family who cause him more harm than good, he assumes that his life will play out the same way as his peers – he’ll either end up dead or in prison. Whichever comes first.
A small-time crook looking to make it big, Stanton is slowly giving up on a life which has quickly given up on him and his days are spent leading his gang, robbing, drinking and fighting with those he has grown to hate.
Born on the wrong side of town and the wrong side of life, for a few days in the blistering summer of 1985, Stanton finds himself battling events that are spiralling outside of his control.
Having become too confident in his own ability, he finds himself owing money to people that won’t take no for an answer. Feeling the seaside town that he has never left, start to close in around him, he goes to a café to contemplate his next move.
It is there, while he sits smoking a cigarette, that he sees a schoolgirl walk up to the end of the jetty and quietly watches as she climbs over the railings.
